- Memorial DayA day on which those who died in active military service are remembered, traditionally observed on May 30 but now officially observed on the last Monday in May. Memorial Day started as an event to honor Union soldiers, who had died during the American Civil War. It was inspired by the way people in the Southern states honored their dead. After World War I, it was extended to include all men and women, who died in any war or military action. Memorial Day is Monday May 25. Ways to honor/celebration memorial day is by going to a place where they honor the military like an event they’re having or even by having a party or a small gathering.
