History of
Basketball
The
creator of basketball is James Naismith. James
Naismith was a Canadian American sports coach and innovator. He invented the
sport of basketball in 1891. James Naismith created the game while working at a
YMCA in Springfield, Massachusetts. He
created the game so that athletes can play during the winter. He published 13
rules for the new game. He divided his class of 18 into 2 teams of 9 players
each and set about to teach them the basics of his new game. You basically just
had to throw the ball into the fruit baskets, until later on when they removed
the bottoms of the fruit baskets so the ball would go through. The first public
game was on March 11,1892 they used a soccer ball and two peach baskets. In the
begging they had to shoot the ball from the on spot where they caught the ball.
Basketball today is way different we now we use actual basketballs and real
nets instead of soccer balls and fruit baskets. Also the rules are different
before you couldn’t run with the ball you had to stay now we can run (dribble)
the ball to make a shot.
