Electrocardiograph Technician
Duties and
Responsibilities:
Electrocardiogram technicians generally are employed in
hospitals, laboratories or cardiologists' offices. They typically work 40 hours
a week, although occasional weekend work might be required as well. ECG
technicians employed with laboratories tend to put in longer hours.
Additionally, they might be required to be on call and come in at odd hours. ECG
technicians should expect to perform heavy lifting on a regular basis as they
move patients and equipment. They also should be prepared to work with patients
who are suffering or have serious heart conditions.
Salary:
$25,998- $44,062
Education:
While aspiring EKG technicians may receive on-the-job
training, many complete certificate programs at a community college or
vocational school. Topics covered may include echocardiography, medical
terminology, the role of the EKG technician, electrocardiography, anatomy of
the heart, medical disease processes, phlebotomy and legal issues for the EKG
technician. Clinical topics covered include 12-lead placement, ventricular
rhythms, sinus rhythm, basic EKG interpretation, Holter monitor use and
identifying heart rhythms.
Reflection:
No I don’t think I would like to be a electrocardiograph technician
because the job seems too complicated. Also because they have really weird schedules
because they get called in at random times.
